Joseph HirtzBetter Beer JudgeOne of our most experienced brewers, Joe started brewing in March of 2001. He is our resident expert beer tasting judge and shares his knowledge at a monthly competition team meeting. We learn how to evaluate beer based on the Homebrewers Association sanctioned competition program. Scoring categories include aroma, appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel. Scores range from 0 to 50 with comments that provide valuable feedback to the brewers.
What he likes most about home brewing is the end result. We like that he is so willing to share his expertise and samples of his brews! |
Mary and George TaylorAward Winning Brew CoupleTwenty five years ago George brewed maybe twice a year with a Mr. Beer kit. Then he heard about Brandon Bootleggers. He talked Mary into attending meetings with him. She found out that she could serve their creations at events and compete for awards! Together they honed their skills and became highly respected in the home brewer community near and far.

Diana ZemoDiscovering Healthy Brewing since 2013Diana joined the club in 2014 and became an officer right away so she could learn more about brewing and help the club in return. What she loves most about brewing is original recipe development using pure ingredients for healthier beer!
She is the proud “parent” of a top selling beer at Bootleggers Brewery Co. called Lushable Crush IPA. As shown in the picture, she takes full advantage of brewing here in Florida, by setting up her equipment under a tent next to the pool! Ask her more about brewing and check out Barley’s Angels at http://barleysangels.org |
Bob AppleyardHome Brewer Since 2010Bob’s been brewing since 2010 and joined the club in 2011. He is very well read in the art of home brewing and eager to share his knowledge on the subject. You’ll get recommended readings from him and he’ll even lend you books from his library on the subject.
Bob says, “Although I experiment widely with sours, brett and wild beers my favorite brews are old school IPAs with the venerable "C" hops: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and, especially, Columbus.” An open invitation to brew with him is especially helpful. You can see how he has assembled his own custom equipment for the process. Interested in attending the Annual National Homebrewers Conference? See Bob if you have any questions and sign up! https://www.homebrewcon.org/ |
